Las Vegas is busy any time of year, but each month of the year brings something new to the Vegas scene. The sun might not shine as bright or as hot in January, but there are plenty of Las Vegas events that offer something new and exciting during your wintertime trip to Sin City. From New Year’s celebrations to Lantern Festivals and sporting events, here are the top Las Vegas January Events.

New Year’s Celebrations In Las Vegas

If you like to celebrate New Year’s with crowds of people in a crazy, fun party environment, Las Vegas is your destination to start the coming year. The Las Vegas Strip is closed down and transforms into a giant party on New Year’s Eve, complete with an explosive fireworks display that lights up the sky. Plus, the fun carries on until the wee hours of the morning with parties in many bars and nightclubs throughout the city.

New Year’s Celebrations In Las Vegas

While the scene is a little quieter on New Year’s Day, there’s still lots to do in Vegas. Catch a show, start the year with an indulgent visit to a world-class spa, watch one of the New Year’s Day games on a massive screen in one of the casino Sports Book, treat yourself to brunch and little retail therapy. Really, you can do anything your heart desires.

One thing to note is that hotels and resorts in Vegas fill up fast as the new year approaches. You’re going to get the best deals on a room or suite if you plan early and keep an eye out for New Year’s packages and special offers. Whatever you do, don’t wait until the last minute!

Festival of Lanterns Las Vegas

Festival of Lanterns Las Vegas

The Festival of Lanterns at Cowabunga Bay takes place every year from November through February. The festival features gorgeous handcrafted Chinese Lanterns that light up the landscape of Cowabunga Bay, which is located in Henderson, NV.

As beautiful as they are, this festival isn’t just about the lanterns. January also brings with it the Lunar New Year celebration. The Festival of Lanterns comes to life with large works of art created from silk by talented artisans. There’s a gallery of lanterns, a larger-than-life dancing lion, a colorful peacock, an underwater world with majestic and fantastical creatures, and thousands of twinkling lights for a magical experience.

Visiting the Festival of Lanterns at Cowabunga Bay is a wonderful way to welcome the Chinese New Year, but it’s not the only tribute or celebration that you’ll find in Las Vegas. Many of the major resorts traditionally offer special displays and performances in honor of the holiday.

The Bellagio Conservatory and Botanical Gardens offer up a beautiful seasonal display featuring plants, flowers, landscaping, pools, decor, and lighting to highlight the beauty of Chinese culture. The waterfall atrium at the Venetian Resort is similarly transformed in celebration.

January 2022 brought the first Chinese New Year celebration at Resorts World Las Vegas. The celebration included live entertainment with Chinese folk dancers and singers. Resorts World Las Vegas is one of the newest hotels in Sin City, so it will be exciting to see how their Chinese New Year celebration evolves in the years to come.
