Getting a Las Vegas Marriage License
To get a marriage license in Las Vegas, you’ll need to meet some requirements and then also fill out an application.
Marriage License Requirements
Compared to a lot of other states and cities, the requirements to obtain a marriage license in Las Vegas are rather simple. The requirements are the same regardless of gender or U.S. citizenship.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, and both parties must appear in person at the marriage license bureau. Each applicant must provide acceptable identification, like a driver’s license. Additionally, applicants can not already have a living husband or wife and must be no nearer kin than cousins of half-blood or second cousins.
Unlike other states, there is no blood test required for a marriage license, and there is also no waiting period. If you meet all of these requirements, when you physically appear at the marriage license bureau, the couple will only need their valid, government-issued identification and no other documents.
Nevada Marriages and Special Ceremonies
Nevada marriage licenses are only valid within state borders. If the marriage ceremony occurs on the water or in the air, the couple should restate with witnesses once back on Nevada soil.
Before meeting with the clerks at the marriage license bureau, you’ll need to fill out the online marriage license application. On the application, each party must enter their information. You’ll need to enter your name exactly as it appears on the identification that you each will be using.
You’ll also need each person’s social security number. If either applicant has had a previous marriage, the application requires a divorce or widowed date. Additionally, you will have to enter each party’s parents’ names and place of birth that appears on their birth certificate.
In the next step of the application, you’ll declare your new names and enter your mailing information.
There are sometimes extraordinary circumstances. For instance, if only one individual from the couple can appear before the clerks at the marriage license bureau due to hospitalization or incarceration, you can find additional instructions and forms on the Clark County Clerk’s website. If you have a special case, always contact the marriage license office directly.
