Artwork & Vibe

Main Bedroom in Empathy Suite

The Empathy Suite was designed by world-renowned artist Damien Hirst. Hirst’s artwork adorns every surface, from the floor tiles to the floor-to-ceiling windows and private outdoor terrace. If we had to describe the vibe of this suite in one word, it would be ‘extravagant’.

After all, what else would you call a space that spans more than 9,000 square feet but only sleeps 4 people? The suite feels incredibly spacious, and you can tell every inch of it was carefully designed. Hirst’s unique art displays are incorporated into the room rather than just being a traditional work of art that’s hung on a wall or sat on a shelf.

Staying in this suite feels a lot like staying in an interactive Damien Hirst museum because that’s pretty much what it is! There’s not a single space that isn’t either a work of art or complementing another nearby piece of art in the space.

Butterflies

Butterflies are a recurring theme in Hirst’s artwork, and this room is no exception. There are more than 100 stone butterflies on the marble floor and pool deck alone! Butterflies are on the walls, upholstery, and furniture throughout the suite. The butterfly motif is the most consistent design in the suite, creating a sense of continuity from one room to the next.

Hirst uses butterflies in his artwork because they represent growth, change, and the circle of life.

Prescription Drugs

Hirst has been called “The Pharmacist Artist” on more than one occasion, and a few steps inside The Empathy Suite make it very clear why. Hirst uses pharmaceuticals in interesting ways, highlighting the nuanced relationship people have with them in society today.

Inside the suite, there’s pill-patterned wallpaper, a pill-shaped stool, and a case with prescription pills on display. There’s even a glass bar, with seating for 13, stuffed full of more than 100 pounds of medical trash. This display is aptly named “Medical Waste”. Pills can also be seen on the large windows throughout the suite, each displaying a different type of medication that’s used to treat a different ailment.

The exact reason why Hirst uses prescription pills in his artwork is open to interpretation. Some think the artwork is speaking about how reliant we’ve become on pharmaceuticals. Others think it’s a statement on the darker side of pharmaceuticals, relating to how they’re often overprescribed because we live in a world that wants a quick fix for everything.

Ultimately, the prescription pill artwork in The Empathy Suite encourages you to think about the duality of pharmaceuticals and maybe even do some introspective work on your own relationship with pills. We know one thing for certain – this is the only suite in Las Vegas that uses prescription pills as an art piece!

Wall of Diamonds

A large glass pill cabinet has been transformed into a wall of diamonds in the suite. Before you ask, yes, the diamonds are real! Thousands of diamonds are encased behind glass, creating a truly breathtaking work of art.

When you’re looking at the cost of this suite, it’s important to remember that it’s a suite designed for entertaining. It can comfortably accommodate up to 50 guests in the main areas, but it can only sleep up to 4 people.
