The desert and ice may seem like opposites, but the Las Vegas Valley has tons of places to ice skate. However, one of the most popular is the Las Vegas Ice Center. Whether you have two left skates or are a seasoned pro, you can have fun ice skating at the Las Vegas Ice Center.
Here’s what you can expect before you go, plus a few hotels to stay at nearby.
Las Vegas Ice Center Facilities
The Las Vegas Ice Center is comprised of two skate rinks, a snack bar, locker rooms, a pro shop, and a skate rental center.
There is the North Rink and the South Rink
They keep the facilities clean and up to date, the ice smooth, and hire friendly, knowledgeable staff, making it the perfect place to cool off in the desert, whether by playing sports or just cruising around on your skates.
Las Vegas Ice Center Schedule
The Las Vegas Ice Center provides its schedule each day for both of its skating rinks on its website. The daily schedule is color-coordinated and gives what is going on at each rink and when.
You’ll find tournaments, games, open-skate time, classes, coaches’ ice time, and all events that occur within the facility on the schedule.
Las Vegas Ice Center Programs
Open Skate
Open skate is where the ice skating rink opens up the ice for two hours at a time for the public to enjoy. Both beginners and professionals can take to the ice and brush up on skills or just skate around and relax.
The Ice Center turns off the bright lights switching it up for colored and disco lights. They also turn up the jams and put music videos on the jumbotron during public skating.
It usually takes place on the North rink at least once daily, though you’ll want to check the schedule on their website ahead of time.
The facility provides ice skate rentals of both figure skates and hockey skates in sizes 8 for Kids through a Men’s size 13; however, you should come dressed in warm athletic attire, and it’s recommended that young children have gloves and a helmet.
Hockey
The Ice Center has a ton of hockey-related events, including classes, tournaments, and leagues for all ages.
In terms of classes, they offer the Little Knights Hockey Program, Introduction to House League, and much more. They have Stick and Puck, which is an open skate session for hockey players to hone their hockey skills in a more relaxed environment as well.
The center offers adult and children’s leagues, so no matter your age, you can compete in the sport you love.
Other hockey services at the Las Vegas Ice Center’s state-of-the-art facilities include a Skating Treadmill where you can improve your skating skills and a Rapid Shot Room to work on getting the puck in the net. There are also private lessons in case you need them. The Stick & Puck is an open skate session for all skill levels to work on their hockey skills and private lessons.
Figure Skating
Similar to hockey, the Las Vegas Ice Center also has classes, camps, and figure skating competitions. You can also get private figure skating lessons if you want a more hands-on approach.
Curling
Don’t want to be on skates? Curling is one of the Las Vegas Ice Center’s more recent additions to its offerings. Learn to play, join a league, and participate in one of the Winter Olympics’ most up-and-coming sports. The best part is you don’t have to know how to skate to do it!
Birthday Parties & Private Events
Ice skating makes for an excellent birthday party, especially for kids. The Las Vegas Ice Center has three packages for birthday parties that are quite affordable.
The packages include a private party room, a dedicated party host, food, drinks, party favors, and two hours of ice skating. The main difference is how many skaters there are; as the number increases, so does the food, drink, and party favors to feed everyone.
However, of course, the more skaters you include, the more the price goes up.
Prices
Speaking of pricing, you can expect leagues, classes, tournaments, and lessons to have their own fees. However, what you probably really want to know is how much the public skate costs.
Public skating has a flat admission rate of $20, including your admission and skate rental for the full two hours. You can also rent ice walkers to help steady you or the kids for $5 each.
Ice Center Pro Shop
The ice center’s pro shop is stocked with all you need for hockey and figure skating, with trained, knowledgeable staff to give you the best-personalized recommendations.
You’ll find skates, sticks, accessories, and apparel, including Las Vegas Golden Knights apparel. They also offer professional skate sharpening!
Winter Wonderland
Every Christmas, the Las Vegas Ice Center transforms one of its ice rinks into a stunning, magical experience they call Winter Wonderland. They bring in snow and all the Christmas decorations you love, including several Christmas trees, while Christmas music begs you to sing along.
Skate around and enjoy the holiday magic environment. It is by far one of the most popular events of the season.
