Las Vegas is full of nightlife options. For the adventurous, nothing quite beats hanging out with friends at one of the most sought-after nightlife experiences, like the seductive hidden bars we know as speakeasies. A night at the local speakeasy includes the challenge of finding them, the feeling of exclusivity, and drink menus that are out of this world. One of the most talked-about hidden bars in Las Vegas is the Ghost Donkey.
The Spirit of Ghost Donkey Las Vegas
Ghost Donkey is a mezcal and tequila lounge that serves spirit flights, hand-crafted cocktails, and a selection of legendary snacks. Ghost Donkey has a great selection of traditional Mexican spirits and artisanal brands that they offer for sipping or for spinning into one of their creative and fun cocktails.
As you walk into Ghost Donkey, you experience an intimate vibe complete with amazing character and charm. Some of that intimacy comes from the fact that they only have around ten barstools at the bar and space for about the same elsewhere in the lounge as the space is not much larger than a typical hotel room. We also can’t ignore the decor and lighting, which have been perfectly curated to create the perfect speakeasy vibe.
Sounds enticing, right? We are sure the questions are mounting in your head. What are the drinks like? Where do I even find the Ghost Donkey? Have no worries. We have the answers to all of your questions. Here’s what you can expect from Ghost Donkey in Las Vegas and how to get there.
Drink & Food Menu
Both the drink and food menu are crafted to perfection. There are far more drink options than food, but it’s Las Vegas, so who’s going to complain. The food they do have is excellent, and they have truly gone for quality over quantity when it comes to the eats. Here’s a look at some of the favorite menu selections.
Drinks
Ghost Donkey includes some alluring ingredients in their cocktails. For proof of this, we can look to the Mushroom Margarita, which has huitlacoche-infused illegal Joven mezcal, Combier triple sec, lime, and lava salt. Don’t let the black color of the Mushroom Margarita scare you. It is absolutely delicious.
Another favorite is the Stone Wall with Espolon Reposado, Montelobos mezcal, pama pomegranate, and habanero cider. Try the Espadin Spritz, a cocktail with Montelobos mezcal, yellow chartreuse, pastis Ricard, lemongrass, and sparkling wine if you are looking for some fragrant flavors.
Another option is to get some spice in your life with the Pistolero containing Viva tequila, ancho Verde, roasted poblano, pineapple, and lime. Ghost Donkey also now has the Stealth Margarita, served frozen containing Cazadores Blanco, St. Germain, cucumber, lime, and chili.
If these intoxicating cocktails don’t do it for you, Ghost Donkey Bar also has two full pages of mezcals and tequilas from various regions that are by the ounce, as well as a few beers to choose from.
Food
If you work up a bit of an appetite, the Ghost Donkey is infamous for its selection of nachos. Try their fan-favorite Truffle Nachos with white cheddar sauce, black truffles, and chives, or go the carnivore route with the Steak and Black Bean Nachos. The Steak Nachos are topped with prime steak, chili sauce, and a black bean salad. You can also get guacamole and chips and add spicy crab if you are in the mood for a touch of seafood.
The best part of the Ghost Donkey food options is the selection of homemade hot sauce. They offer mild, medium, and hot, each with its own flavor profile. Our favorite is the Scotch Bonnet ‘Orange Sriracha’, which is fragrant, fresh, fruity, and spicy, but if you love the heat, go with the Chile De Arbol with a roasted, smokey, rich, and hot flavor profile.
Happy Hour
Every hour is happy hour at Ghost Donkey. Unfortunately, they don’t often have a traditional happy hour with specials. However, they may occasionally run one, so always keep checking with them, so you don’t miss out on the fun!
Location
Here’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for. Now that you have discovered the menu and atmosphere, we’re sure you are ready to know where to go. So, where can you find Ghost Donkey? Ghost Donkey is located in the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, which is known for its fantastic restaurant and bar selections.
To find Ghost Donkey, you’ll first have to go to the Cosmopolitan Block 16 food court on the second floor of the Boulevard Tower, across the hall from Holstein’s near the Chandelier Bar. However, you won’t see any signage for it, a key element of what makes secret bars secret.
Head to the back of the food court. There you’ll be looking for a simple push open secret door with a small white donkey on it and a green exit sign above it. Even though it looks like a door you probably aren’t supposed to use, push it open. You’ll find yourself immersed in the small speakeasy and ready to get your drink on.
Hours
Ghost Donkey has changed their hours a few times since opening. At one point, they used to be open until 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday! However, their current hours are from 4 p.m. to midnight every day, including the weekends.
Though these hours are up to date as of the writing of this article, always check the official Ghost Donkey website or text the Cosmopolitan digital concierge hosted by resident mischief-maker Rose at 702.930.8188 for the most up to date information.
