You’ve scored a great deal on a room or suite at one of the famous Las Vegas hotels, but when you check-in, the cost of your stay suddenly jumps. You can thank resort fees for this sticker shock, and you’ll find that this extra charge is a common practice in Las Vegas hotels. There are ways to avoid Las Vegas resort fees, including staying at a hotel that doesn’t charge one.

With all the hotels in the city, the ones that don’t charge a resort fee are a little like rare gems. We’ve found some hotels on the Strip and off where you can actually pay the advertised room rate without any extra charges.

What Is a Resort Fee?

Simply put, a resort fee is an additional fee a hotel or resort charges that are used to cover the use of their amenities. This may include the use of the swimming pool, free wi-fi, continental breakfast, the fitness center, community areas, etc.

Some hotels in Las Vegas include these amenities in the cost of their room, like many other places in the United States. For some travelers, this isn’t such a big deal. Others may find it annoying, especially if they’ve carefully planned out a budget and don’t plan on using those amenities anyway.

Resort fees often take unsuspecting hotel guests by surprise because, in some cases, if you think you’ve scored big with a cheap Las Vegas hotel, the resort fee can be nearly as much as the price of the room. The average resort fee in Las Vegas is between $20-$60.

If you’re not sure if a hotel charges resort fees, simply ask. If you’re going through a booking agent, get it in writing whether or not a resort fee is included in your package. If you want to avoid these fees altogether, here’s a list of hotels in Las Vegas that don’t charge any resort fees at all.
