Last Updated on May 10, 2022

When checking out great hotels in Las Vegas, NV, the Luxor and The Excalibur are two names that are hard to miss. Both of these hotels are located on the South Strip, a little farther away from the constant hustle and bustle of the main strip.

Choosing between the two can be a challenge, and where to stay is one of the biggest questions about Las Vegas. We’ve compared the Luxor vs. Excalibur and covered all the essential details, like the rooms, location, dining, and more.

That means less time reading Las Vegas forums and reviews to decide which hotel type is best for your stay, and more time planning your trip!

The Luxor Las Vegas is a large 30- story, 4-star hotel owned and operated by MGM Resorts International. This is Vegas, so of course, there’s also a casino attached with slots and table games, as well as great dining and entertainment options.

Also located on the Las Vegas Strip is the Excalibur, named after King Arthur’s magical sword. This large resort has a pool, casino, spa, and fitness center. This resort is also owned and operated by the MGM Resorts International Hotel Brand.

MGM has many resorts and hotels within Las Vegas, NV, including some of the most famous names on the Strip. Let’s take a closer look at how these two compare and where you should stay during your next trip to Vegas.

Excalibur Hotel Las Vegas

There is a huge price range with Las Vegas hotels. Price varies depending on location, amenities, size of the room, views, and which dining and entertainment options are available in the hotel or close by. All hotels have tiered pricing, with lower rates for their standard rooms and more expensive options with luxury rooms and suites.

In our look at Luxor vs. Excalibur, we compared their standard rooms and their premium ones.

Beginning with Luxor, their standard rooms are called the Pyramid rooms. These rooms range from $35-$35 per night. If you’re looking for a little more luxury, the next step up is the Stay Well rooms that range from $45-$50 per night. Premium and Elite rooms are also options if you’re willing to spend more.

The Excalibur is much like the Luxor in the price structure and size of their rooms. Their standard rooms begin as low as $32 a night if you put a little effort into looking for the lowest rate. For guests looking for a little more glam when staying in Las Vegas, NV, there are more premium rooms available, starting at about $20 more a night and increasing in price from there.

What separates a good hotel room from a great one? It’s all in the details. Both hotels are part of the MGM name, so there are going to be some similarities, but also a few differences as well. Let’s check out the rooms of the Luxor Vs. Excalibur and compare.

The Luxor’s standard room is the Pyramid room. At 420 sq ft, it’s a bit on the smaller size for its hotel class but still roomy enough for a king-size bed, a sitting area, and comfortable amenities.

For those traveling with a family, the Luxor also offers a Pyramid room with two queen beds that can sleep a total of four people. The Pyramid rooms are newly renovated and just waiting to welcome you during your stay. If you’re looking for more spacious accommodations, the Luxor offers freshly renovated tower rooms with great views of the Strip.

Excalibur’s standard rooms are their Resort Tower Rooms. These also feature a king-size bed and a small seating area. The price of the standard rooms between the two hotels is comparable.

Much like the Luxor, the Excalibur also has two Stay Well rooms, one with two queen beds or a single king bed. Stay well rooms come with comfort and wellness add-ons like air purification, aromatherapy, and a vitamin C shower infuser. For more space and elegance, there are three classes of luxury rooms, their Royal Superior rooms, and penthouse suites that sleep up to four.

So Luxor vs. Excalibur, in terms of rooms, are much the same with the expectation of Luxor offering two different penthouse suites as part of their luxury accommodations.

Amenities are the extras included by hotels in their room price and hotel fee. A hotel fee is quite standard when staying in Las Vegas but can add a bit to the bottom line of the cost of your hotel stay. A good rule of thumb is to always ask about resort fees, charges, etc., upfront, so there are no surprises later. Here’s how Excalibur Vs. Luxor compare.

The Luxor’s standard amenities included in their rooms are; wireless internet, ironing board, hairdryer, flat-screen tv, and in-room safe.

There are extra amenities available within the Stay Well rooms, such as air purification, aromatherapy, and a vitamin C shower infuser. Premium rooms have the extra amenity of a deep soaker tub. Trust that this is something you’ll appreciate after hours of walking the Strip or a day trip of touring the Grand Canyon

Other hotel-wide amenities include pools with lots of seating and cabanas, a fitness center, spa, shopping, parking, and programs for active military and veterans.

The same company also manages both resorts, so many of the amenities offered are the same. Reviews note that some of the main differences are that Luxor has been updating their rooms more than Excalibur.

Stay Well rooms at the Excalibur are the same as the Luxor, with the same in-room amenities of air purification, aromatherapy, and a vitamin C shower infuser. Premium rooms have the added luxury of the deep soaker tub.

While staying at the Excalibur, you’ll want to take advantage of the beautiful weather in Vegas. Spend the day hanging out at the pool, with cabanas available at an extra cost. Younger guests will enjoy the water slide while the adults rest and mingle poolside.

Las Vegas and the casino scene seem to go hand in hand. Where is the location of the closest casino? If you’re wandering around, wanting to know where the slots and blackjack tables are, you don’t have to look any further than your own hotel when staying at the Luxor or Excalibur.

At Luxor, guests can enjoy over 1,100 slot machines with betting ranges up to $100. With traditional slot games and video slot machines, there are plenty to choose from.

Luxor Hotel Casino

Not one for the slots? No problem, Luxor has over 120,000 square feet filled with nothing but table games. Try their $5 Blackack for an exciting low-stakes table game. While playing the table games, you can also enjoy free cocktail service.

The Excalibur has a slightly smaller casino. They offer about 1,000 different machines with a high betting limit of $100. The Excalibur also has ten different table games available.

For those looking for VIP treatment at both resorts, check out their M Rewards program. Joining gets members personalized offered, exclusive experiences, a dedicated reservation line, and more.

Guest reviews and Las Vegas forums are great places to look when deciding where to stay during your visit. Reviews tend to favor Luxor’s casino over Excalibur’s, but this really depends on what type of casino experience you’re looking for.

It’s no secret that Las Vegas dining is some of the best in the country. The Luxor and the Excalibur both offer the type of dining options you’d expect from MGM properties.

The Luxor has many dining options for a quick bite. With fast favorites like Johnny Rockets and Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs, the Luxor food court is a great spot for a quick refuel while out and about in Vegas. Lastly, the Fun Dungeon is the world-famous Excalibur arcade, featuring a wide range of games and lots of prizes up for grabs.

Let’s not forget that there are plenty of things to do outside of the hotels in fabulous Las Vegas. The surrounding area is filled with natural wonders to explore. Try a helicopter or ATV tour, or maybe take a day trip for touring the Grand Canyon

Las Vegas wouldn’t be Las Vegas without the nightlife scene. One of the top tourist questions about Las Vegas is where to go for the ultimate night out. The scene is bursting with hotspots and trendy clubs, but in the battle of Luxor Vs. Excalibur Las Vegas, where can you find the best nightlife scene?

Luxor showcases three different nightlife options. The first is Centra, A social bar that’s set back away from the casino. This is a great spot to enjoy a quiet drink for friends or take someone on a first date.

If you’re looking for something with more of a party vibe, the Flight Bar is a high-energy bar. Lastly, there is Aurora. This bar has a great ambiance with unique lighting meant to mimic the look of the Northern Lights.

The Excalibur has a few more options for anyone looking to enjoy their stay in Las Vegas, NV.

Unique to Excalibur is Dick’s Last Resort. While it is also a restaurant, it is trendy for the nighttime crowd. This is thanks to their Las Vegas happy hour and their unique bars, including one outside on a rooftop.

There is The Lounge, open until 2 am on the weekends for more of a classic bar feel. This venue also offers live entertainment. Another option is the Sherwood Bar, where you can enjoy video poker and drinks.

Lastly, unique to the Excalibur is the Lobby Bar, a great place to unwind with other guests who are exploring and enjoying Las Vegas, NV.

Bottom Line

So, which is better, Luxor or Excalibur? Guest reviews rave about the Excalibur, especially with its location so close to the heart of the Strip, but both are great options when you’re looking for places to stay in  Las Vegas. Neither is considered a budget hotel, but there are rooms and suites available in practically every price range.

In the debate of Luxor Vs. Excalibur, our choice is Excalibur but only by the smallest of margins. You really can’t go wrong with either of the vegas hotels and places to enjoy your time in Sin City.
