Las Vegas Reopening

February 10, 2022 – Go Maskless! Gov Sisolak announced that masks will no longer be required in public places effective immediately!

January 2022: All Nevada counties are requiring masks to be worn indoors regardless of vaccination status. Most restaurants, shows, and events have been reopened with the exception of a few buffets and a handful of shows.

October 30, 2021 Update: More buffets and shows continue to reopen with the last Cirque show opening in November.

September Update: Clark County (Las Vegas) and all other High transmission counties are requiring everyone, including fully vaccinated individuals, are required to wear a mask in public indoor settings.

Effective July 30: New mask mandate for everyone indoors – vaccinated or not – issued by Governor Steve Sisolak.

Update July 22: New mask mandate for all employees working indoors in Vegas. Customers and tourists do NOT need to wear masks if vaccinated.

Update July 16: With a total of 8 buffets reopened, and almost all shows opened (except for a few Cirque du Soleil shows still yet to come), Vegas is about 95% open!

Update May 19: All of Las Vegas will reopen at 100% capacity on June 1!!

Update May 18: Bacchanal Buffet is opening on May 20th, and the Monorail is reopening on May 27th at 7am.

Update May 13: Masks are off. You no longer need to wear a mask in Las Vegas if you are fully vaccinated, according to Gov Sisolak, who is following the CDC Guidance.

The Gaming Board has also granted most casinos to open at 100% capacity, which means social distancing rules no longer apply, plexiglass can be taken down and bars on the gaming floor can be at 100% capacity. Check our hotel charts below for the capacity limits at your favorite casino. Pools, restaurants and other areas are still reopened at 80% capacity.

Update April 28: As of May 1, Casinos, restaurants and bars can reopen at 80% capacity, up from the previous 50% capacity. Social distancing is also updated to only 3 feet, from the previous 6 ft distancing.

The Governor announced he thinks Las Vegas can reopen to 100% by June 1!

Update March 15: As promised by Governor Sisolak, most establishments can now reopen at 50% capacity. These include:

  • Casinos
  • Indoor Restaurants, Bars, Wineries, Breweries (no limits on outdoor dining)
  • Pools
  • Arcades
  • Racetracks
  • Bowling Alleys
  • Mini-Golf
  • Pool Halls
  • Amusement Parks
  • Gyms
  • Retail Stores (including Cannabis)
  • Museums, Art Galleries
  • Aquariums, Zoos

Places still closed until May 1:

  • Karaoke
  • Adult entertainment
  • Brothels
  • Day and Night Clubs

Update March 6, 2021: Governor Sisolak adjusts the space between performers and audience members from 25 ft to 6 ft if performers are wearing masks, and 12 ft unmasked.

This allows many smaller shows to reopen now with that 25 ft gutter removed! Check out the shows reopening chart below.

Update February 13, 2021: Las Vegas restaurants and bars can increase capacity to 35% starting on Feb 15, 2021.

Outdoor dining can fully reopen and reservations are no longer required. The number of diners per table will increase from 4 to 6 people per table.

Gatherings will increase from 35% capacity or 100 people, whichever is lower starting on February 15, 2021.

On March 15, restaurants and bars will expand to 50% capacity. The governor will allow larger public gatherings expanded to 250 people or 50% capacity on March 15, 2021.

Adult entertainment establishments, nightclubs, day clubs, and brothels will remain closed until at least May 1.

Update January 2021: Governor Sisolak has extended its 50-person limit on show audiences.

Las Vegas is a city known for its bright lights and vibrant energy. This all came to a halt this past March when, per state orders, the Las Vegas Strip was closed down due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Recently, after thanking Nevadans for doing an incredible job of flattening the curve, Las Vegas Governor, Steve Sisolak, has officially announced the Las Vegas reopening after 78 long days.

This means that while some of your favorite Vegas destinations will be reopening, not all of them will open their doors just yet. It also means that you can expect some changes in your experience as safety measures and protocols are put in place to protect both guests and staff at your favorite Vegas destinations.

Here’s a rundown of what is open in Las Vegas, and what to expect when you visit.

Hotels & Casinos Reopening

Vegas and casino are words that are practically synonymous with each other, and Las Vegas casinos reopening is a huge event that many have been waiting for. It’s important to note that not all casinos will be opening on the first day of Phase 2, & the ones that are reopening immediately already have plans in place to protect your health and safety.

While some safety measures are mandated under Phase 2 of the reopening plan, some casinos have taken it a step further by implementing their own safety plans that include additional measures.

If you’re visiting several casinos during your stay or visit to the strip, being prepared and knowing what to expect at each location will make your time in Las Vegas casinos more enjoyable.

Downtown Casinos Reopen First

In true Vegas style, Downtown casinos opened in a massive celebration with all casinos on Fremont Street turning on the lights at 12:01am on June 4, with the exception of Binions, who opens at 10am.

The Fremont Street Experience had a 144-hour countdown to the reopening at 12:01am.

MGM Casino Resorts Seven Point Safety Plan includes the following initiatives:

  1. Employee screening, which includes temperature checks and health assessment questions
  2. Mandatory use of masks and PPE by employees
  3. Adherence to 6-ft social distancing guidelines, and mitigation protocols when social distancing becomes a challenge
  4. Custom handwashing stations and sanitizer to promote improved hygienic practices
  5. HVAC air circulation to mitigate viral spread through the air
  6. Incident response protocols
  7. Digital check-ins, including room keys on guest phones

MGM Casino Resorts will also be encouraging all guests to wear masks, especially while on the casino floor. Masks will be provided, free of charge, to any guest who requests one. To support mask-wearing, MGM Casino Resorts is restricting food on the casino floor and asking guests to minimize the time masks are removed when consuming beverages.

Additionally, MGM Casino Resorts has committed to enhanced cleaning methods for community game spaces, along with additional space between games, and plexiglass barriers where appropriate.

Guests should also be aware that certain features and amenities provided by MGM Casino Resorts will be limited or temporarily closed during Phase 2 of the city’s reopening. This includes the Poker Room being closed, The BetMGM Sportsbook operating with limited hours, and the temporary suspension of valet parking services. All self-parking is now free!

Caesars Resorts

Similar to MGM Resorts, Caesars is reopening only three casinos in the first week, leaving the others closed. Their Covid-19 protection changes include:

  1. Hand washing stations throughout the resorts
  2. Employee mask wearing mandatory and guests are encouraged to do so
  3. Line markers for 6-foot social distancing
  4. More spacing at restaurants and no self-service options available (including buffets)

The Venetian & Palazzo Hotel & Casinos

The Venetian Resort is excited to welcome guests through their door as Las Vegas reopens. To ensure that their guests and staff are provided the safest experience possible, the Venetian Resort Las Vegas has announced their Clean Commitment

The Venetian’s Clean Commitment is designed to reassure visitors that their health and safety is a top priority. The plan they’ve designed and are implementing exceeds all the current requirements of the CDC, and includes measures such as thermal temperature scans at all entrances and increased cleaning and disinfecting of all public spaces.

The Venetian has also installed more than 100 sanitizing stations on the casino floor and throughout the resort. Expect to see a dedicated staff ensuring that the Venetian upholds its pristine standards as they work around the clock cleaning and disinfecting gaming areas.

When visiting the Venetian casino floor, you can also rest assured knowing that casino chips are disinfected every two hours, as well as ongoing sanitation of all high-touch surfaces. Chair limits are put in place at tables to ensure proper social distancing guidelines are adhered to. Guests are also asked to not congregate at gaming stations.

The Venetian understands that keeping their visitors safe all starts with a healthy team of staff members. All team members will undergo health screening, be provided with PPE, mandatory Covid-19 testing, and an increased emphasis on cleaning and sanitizing “back of the house” team member areas.

Attractions Open

To say that casinos are the only thing at the heart of Vegas would be a huge disservice to all the other incredible attractions that draw so many visitors each year. Las Vegas is filled with amazing sights to behold and so many ways to kick back, relax, and live the good life.

If you’re planning on visiting Vegas in the coming weeks, you’ll want to keep an eye on which popular attractions and destinations are open, along with any special guidelines that might be in place for enjoying your time while visiting.

Generally speaking, expect slightly different protocols between indoor and outdoor spaces. Also, visitors should anticipate following current safe guidelines as Nevada and the city of Las Vegas work through each stage of reopening.

If you’re looking forward to visiting favorite destinations, such as the Bellagio Fountains or lounging at resort pools, here’s a current list of open dates for popular attractions.

    1. No, unfortunately the last remaining open buffet on the Strip, the Wicked Spoon in Cosmopolitan, is closing January 10, 2021 🙁

  1. Just how safe will it be when all of Las Vegas reopen, and how will the casino’s deal with social distancing when gambling at all table games.
