Sometimes, you just want a quick bite without any fuss, and you want it to taste really good. Tekka Bar – Handroll & Sake at the Cosmopolitan Hotel is the solution. Located in the Block 16 Urban Food Court, this place has impressed us more than once.
For you trivia buffs out there, Tekka Bar Handroll & Sake draws inspiration from digging deep into history. The name refers to an ancient gambling destination in Japan dating back more than a century.
When translated, “tekka ba” means old gambling place. We think the name fits in perfectly at the Cosmopolitan Las Vegas, which is known just as much for its top-notch cuisine as it is for its casino.
Menu
We want to start by saying that the menu isn’t huge. Compared to some of the larger sushi bar menus in Las Vegas, you might be a little disappointed in the limited options. However, they have the basics covered, and each is prepared counter side with the freshest seafood.
One of the favorites on the menu is the signature Tekka tuna roll featuring the restaurant’s notable spicy sauce, alongside a sake menu that is really unexpectedly nice for such a casual restaurant.
Other examples of cut rolls on the menu include salmon, bay scallops, lobster, vegetables, and a daily specialty roll.
Roll Sets
The best option, if you’re looking for more of a meal rather than a quick, light bite from the local sushi bar, is to order one of the roll sets. Tekka Bar offers three options – the Threesome, Foursome, or the High Roller.
The Threesome includes salmon, yellowtail, and Tekka spicy tuna for less than $25. The Foursome adds a bay scallop roll to the mix. The High Roller is five rolls that include the selections offered in the Foursome, with the addition of blue crab.
Sake Bar
In our opinion, one way that Tekka really stands out is its eclectic sake program. Guests can choose from selections such as Junmai Sake, Ikeza Sparkling Peach Sake, and Nihon Daiginjo, among a few others.
Of course, sake isn’t the only beverage you can order here. They offer Kirin Ichiban, Sapporo, and Truly Wild Berry on tap. There is also a nice green tea and a nitro matcha green tea if you’re really looking for a nice energy boost.
Price
Tekka Bar Handroll & Sake offers a reasonably priced menu. Most hand rolls cost less than $10, with the Alaskan king crab roll being the one main exception. The roll sets, of course, cost more, but going with this option will end up costing you less than ordering each of the rolls individually.
Sake is priced between $12-$20, but if you’d rather have tea, you can expect to pay $7 for a wonderful green tea.
Reviews
For casual hand rolls and sake, Tekka Bar has some decent reviews. It’s important to keep in perspective that while this spot is great, it is a very casual spot. This means that you’re not going to get the quality that you would at sushi restaurants in Las Vegas, like Wakuda or Nobu.
If you keep this in mind, Tekka Bar Handroll & Sake does have the freshest seafood and spot-on hand rolls. The favorites seem to be the blue crab, yellowtail salmon, and Tekka spicy tuna roll. We can’t argue with this at all.
Hours
Tekka Bar Handroll & Sake is open daily. From Sunday until Thursday, they are open from 11 am until 10 pm. If you’re looking to satisfy a craving for the best hand rolls and sake on the weekend, they’re open from 11 am until midnight.
