Tim Ho Wan Las Vegas

Tim Ho Wan Las Vegas is a dim sum restaurant located at the Palms Casino Resort. With a Michelin Star-winning location in Hong Kong, it didn’t take long until the Las Vegas location of Tim Ho Wan was rated as one of the best dim sum places in the city.

These are true dim sum specialists who never fail to deliver exceptional cuisine, and in our experience, they’ve always exhibited remarkable friendliness when we walked through the door.

A Bit of Backstory of Tim Ho Wan

A Bit of Backstory of Tim Ho Wan's

The first of the Tim Ho Wan restaurants was opened in 2009 by Chefs Mak Kwai Pu and  Leung Fai Keung in Hong Kong. The menu items are all wonderful dim sum dishes that are best shared. In 2010, the Hong Kong location earned a Michelin Star, making it one of the least expensive restaurants to enjoy Michelin Star-level Asian Cuisine.

Since it first opened, Tim Ho Wan has expanded its dim sum restaurant concept to over fifty locations, including the USA. With delicate dishes like sticky rice in lotus leaf and baked BBQ pork buns, it didn’t take long for the tasty reputation to spread like wildfire.

The Las Vegas location is one of the first to offer a bar and cocktails to their guests, and of course, you can enjoy mocktails and exquisite tea service, too.

While many of the USA menus are similar, there’s something special about the ambiance at the Las Vegas location. It’s not an upscale restaurant, but it feels like it is. This is a great place to gather with friends, have a cocktail, enjoy delicious food from the dim sum specialists, and not break the bank.

Dim Sum Menu

As far as dim sum places in Las Vegas go, we think that this one has one of the best menus. If you’ve never been to a dim sum restaurant before and aren’t really sure what to expect, we suggest that you take a look at the menu and decide on a few choices that you’re eager to try. Then, add in a couple that you’re curious about. If you’re dining with a large party, go crazy and order them all!

One of the signature dishes, and also one of our favorites, is sticky rice in lotus leaf. The steamed Maine lobster is phenomenal, as are the baked BBQ pork buns. Other staples that we always order are pan-fried noodles with pork, steamed garlic shrimp, and steamed pork rib with black bean sauce.

If you tend to shy away from seafood dishes at restaurants you aren’t familiar with, know that any seafood we’ve ever had here has been fresh and delicious. It’s all just really good food and nothing at all like your typical Chinese takeout.

Reviews

Reviews

This restaurant doesn’t have as many reviews as a lot of the other resort restaurants on the Las Vegas Strip, but with the ones that do exist, guests who have visited the restaurant generally have positive things to say about the operation.

Tim Ho Wan currently has 4.7 stars on OpenTable, 4 stars on TripAdvisor, and 4.2 stars on Google. Favorite dishes across the board seem to be the BBQ Pork Buns and the Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf. Overall, most people were generally pleased with the quality, especially for the price.

There’s an occasional review here and there that highlights a downside to their dining experience. A few of the less-than-positive experiences include food that seemed too oily, servers that forgot something or didn’t deserve a tip for one reason or another (although we have only had positive experiences with the service here), or that food was a bit cold.

We did find when looking over reviews that the bad ones are definitely the exception and not the rule. So, in our opinion, we’d say take the not-so-great reviews with a grain of salt.

Dress Code

Tim Ho Wan is a casual restaurant, which means you can dress in casual, relaxed attire. That said, the restaurant does offer a nice ambiance, so we decided to dress up just a little but didn’t go overboard.

Hours

Tim Ho Wan is open daily for lunch and dinner service. Their hours are 10 am until 8 pm on Sunday through Thursday and 10 am until 9 pm on Friday and Saturday. Since they open at 10 am every day, you could even wander in after sleeping in late and enjoy a late morning dim sum “breakfast.”
