Las Vegas has been a widely popular tourist destination for decades, and for a good reason. One of the best things about Las Vegas, NV, is the number of things to do. Whether you are an adrenaline junkie or want to relax with a view, there is something in Las Vegas for you. One place to have some different types of fun is Birdly in Area 15.

Area 15 is a relatively new collaborative venture offering everything from festival-inspired artwork and art installations to restaurants, boutiques, various hands-on experiences, and events. One of our favorite things to do at Area15 Las Vegas is Birdly, one of their VR experiences.

Birdly Flight Simulator Experience Details

birdly flight simulator experience details

Birdly mimics an avian experience from every aspect. Enter a digital world with a bird’s eye view of the richest landscapes and feel the wind beneath your wings. Whether you want to fly above New York City or discover the skies of prehistoric worlds, you can with this single-person virtual reality experience.

Unlike other VR systems that rely only on the headset to generate sounds and images, Birdly utilizes a headset and a motion table to generate motor-sensory coupling instead. Because of its ability to work with projection systems or displays, Birdly is fun just to watch or participate in.

To participate, you’ll get virtual reality goggles and lay Superman-style on mechanical wings. As you move your arms, you’ll fly through the sky as the wind blows around you to get the full simulation.

Here are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about Birdly.

Does Birdly make you motion sick?

Birdly does not make you motion sick. This is because there is no gap between the brain’s perception of movement and the body’s orientation. Unlike Birdly, many VR  headsets do not utilize bodily movement, creating a disconnect between the brain and the body, leading to nausea.

How is Birdly different from other VR experiences?

Birdly is quite different from other VR experiences because of its motion table. Birdly mimics headwinds, haptic sensations, and motor-sensory coupling using the motion table instead of just a headset.

Also, typically only the participant can see the visual experience, but with Birdly, the aural and visual sensations can be displayed on a large projector or LED screen for an audience to see.

Is Birdly ADA Compliant?

Birdly is accessible for participants who use wheelchairs as long as they can transfer and have use of their arms and hands. Additionally, participants must not be visually impaired. Birdly is enjoyable for many people that need accessibility accommodations with a little bit of help.

Where can I fly with Birdly?

Currently, you can fly in New York, San Francisco, and prehistoric worlds with Birdly, but other cities are coming soon!

How long is the Birdly VR Experience?

The Birdly VR experience at Area15 is three minutes long but feels much longer when you are flying over some of the richest landscapes.
