Casual attire is the most common style seen during the daytime in Las Vegas, especially if you’re exploring parts of the Las Vegas Strip by foot, wandering around the Downtown Arts District, or catching the daytime action at the Fremont Street Experience. If you love to shop, Las Vegas offers no shortage of great shopping adventures. 

You want to be dressed appropriately for whichever of these activities you might be devoting your Vegas days to. In this case, this usually means super casual, comfortable, and weather appropriate. 

Keep in mind that the heat can be absolutely scorching in Las Vegas during the day, and if you’re exploring on foot, the heat can easily affect you if you’re not dressed appropriately. 

For daytime activities, a simple outfit of breathable fabrics is ideal. For women, shorts, a t-shirt, or a midi skirt with a cute crop top or tank top is easy, comfortable, and breathable. Men might prefer a t-shirt, casual shorts, or lightweight pants made of breathable material. 

The only time you might want to level up your daytime attire is if you’re going somewhere during the day that has a dress code. Fine dining restaurants aren’t going to approve of you showing up in casual shorts and flip-flops, even if it’s just for lunch. Art exhibits and some retail locations might also expect you to be a little more put together, so dress accordingly.

What Vegas trip is complete without an afternoon spent lounging at the pool, or better yet, having fun at a pool party? Las Vegas pool parties are always popular and great to cool off and have fun in the Vegas heat. The big question is, what should you wear?

You need a swimsuit if you want to dip your toes in the pool. Almost every type of swimwear is acceptable, including trunks or swim shorts for men, bikinis, tankinis, and one-piece suits for the ladies. If you’re wondering if your swimwear is appropriate, just check with a staff member and get their input. 

Pool parties require the same type of attire, meaning nice-looking, fashionable swimwear. Cover Ups are also permitted. This might include an actual swimsuit cover or something like a sleeveless wrap dress that can be taken off easily. Keep in mind that you’ll likely be walking through parts of the hotel on your way to the pool, so a cover-up feels essential. However, some pool parties do have a dress code. You may be asked to leave if you wear something that looks like street clothes. 

Footwear in the form of a pair of flip-flops or comfortable sandals is ideal. Again, you’re going to cover a lot of ground that you probably don’t want your bare feet touching. Still, you don’t want to wear any type of formal footwear to the pool. Heels should be a big no, considering how wet and slippery the environment can be. 

Most Las Vegas pools are open only during the day when the overhead sun is at its hottest. If you want to accessorize, it’s best to keep it light and limited. Sunglasses and a sun hat are smart accessories to protect your eyes and provide a little shade over your face.

Going to a casino is like a rite of passage when you visit Las Vegas. The entire Las Vegas Strip is lit up with neon and sparkling lights, drawing you into some of the most famous world-class casinos. The images of Vegas casinos always show people dressed in their finest as they hit the roulette table, but is that really how you should dress at a Vegas casino?

There’s a range of what’s acceptable to wear at the casino. Some people come dressed very casually, but if you’re in a nice casino, you want to dress up a little and make the most of it. 

Although you see it often in the movies, formal attire isn’t required at Las Vegas casinos, although you can dress more formally if you prefer. Expect the dress code to be more elegant if you head to a private poker room. 

On average, you’ll see people wearing everything from casual business wear to casual dressy attire, such as a nice black dress, a nice sleeveless wrap dress with accessories, or tailored black jeans with a fitted blazer. This is one of those times when you can go a little heavier on the accessories if you want to add some glitz and glamor to your outfit. 

There are also more casual casinos if you’re more of jeans and t-shirt type of person. Most of these are found in the downtown Las Vegas area away from the Las Vegas Strip.

It’s best to plan on bringing a few different pairs of shoes when visiting Las Vegas. A good pair of comfortable walking shoes is essential, even if you don’t think you’ll need them. You never know when you might need to make a mad dash across the airport or find yourself with an urge to enjoy long walks as you explore Vegas. 

If you’re planning on going to any nightclubs, enjoying fine dining restaurants, or spending some time in the casino, a pair of nice dress shoes is important. They can be either heels or flats, but they should be in good condition and look nice with your outfit. 

A pair of flip-flops or sandals are appropriate for the pool or casual outings in Las Vegas. If you plan on doing more adventurous activities, like touring the grand canyon, make sure that you bring along proper footwear that is comfortable, easy to walk in, and has good traction.

One word of advice is to not bring brand new shoes with you to Las Vegas or plan on wearing shoes you purchase in Vegas if you’re going to be on your feet for any amount of time. You know how much your feet can hurt after wearing painful, uncomfortable shoes. You don’t want your feet to hurt, ruining your remaining time in Sin City. 

January

January is one of the coolest months in Las Vegas, with high temperatures reaching the upper 50℉ range. While the sun might not be blazing hot, January is still a popular time to visit Las Vegas, thanks to New Year’s Eve, post-holiday getaways, and the beginning of the first-quarter convention season. 

If you’re planning on attending a New Year’s party, find out the dress code or expectations beforehand. That way, you’ll know exactly how to pack. If you’re attending a formal event, plan on wearing more formal attire, such as a classy cocktail dress and heels or a nice suit. Some black tie events will require formal attire, including tuxedos. 

February

February brings lovers celebrating Valentine’s Day to Las Vegas – some of whom might even say “I Do” in a Las Vegas wedding chapel. The weather in Vegas is still pretty cool in February, with average high temps in the lower 60s. At night, the temps can dip into the low 40s. 

Dressing for Las Vegas in February usually means dressing in layers that you can add and remove to make yourself comfortable in different environments. A stylish cardigan works well with t-shirts and jeans and can also go nicely with a stylish little black dress. 

Las Vegas doesn’t see a ton of rain throughout the year. Well, typically. We’ve seen recently that this isn’t always the case. However, the winter months tend to be the rainiest. It’s a good idea to bring along a light jacket and shoes that withstand a few sprinkles if the clouds happen to open up. 

March

March is a busy season for conventions in Las Vegas. If you’re taking a work trip, you want to bring along work-appropriate clothing that will also keep you comfortable in Vegas temps, which average in the low 70s during the day and upper 40s at night. 

March is another month where layering is your friend. Dresses, skirts, or dress pants with a breathable blouse are ideal. Dress pants with a button-up shirt or polo style shirt that can be partnered with a well-fitted tailored blazer that will work well to carry you from work hours into cocktails and dinner at most Las Vegas restaurants. 

April

During April, the weather is just about perfect in Las Vegas. With daytime temps reaching the upper 70s and nighttime temps solidly in the mid-50s, you have lots of options when it comes to what to wear in Las Vegas. 

Most visitors bring a range of both casual and dressy clothing. You can also dress up a simple pair of jeans with a cute top and heels, but rompers are also adorable and easy to dress up or down with shoes and accessories. For menswear, jeans and slacks, and a dress shirt, polo, and t-shirt will get you through most situations. If you plan on being out at night, bring along a light sweater, jacket, or wrap, just in case. 

May

The temps in Las Vegas take a huge jump once May rolls around. Highs can stretch into the low 90s, and the low temps are solidly in the mid-60s. If you are planning a Vegas trip in May, you don’t have to worry about adding a jacket to your packing list unless you’re sensitive to air conditioning and want a light cover, just in case. 

June

June kicks off the beginning of the summer tourism season in Las Vegas. June is also the start of super hot weather, so you want to pack and dress according to what activities you plan on enjoying while here. 

Pools are open, and parties are in full swing, so swimwear is a must unless you plan on purchasing some new swimwear once you arrive. If you’re planning on day trips to someplace like the Hoover Dam or other outdoor activities, shorts or lightweight pants will be the most comfortable. Jeans might be too hot for time spent outdoors. 

Sandals are also appropriate unless you’re hiking or going someplace where the dress code says no open-toe shoes. 

July

If you’re visiting Las Vegas in July, your main objective when packing should be to stay cool! Temps are scorching this time of year, so dress in lightweight fabrics that will keep you cool. Also, keep in mind that it’s more common for feet to swell a little when it’s really hot. This might not be the best time to plan on wearing those really cute, sexy shoes that feel like they’re squeezing your feet in normal conditions. 

August

If you’re looking for Vegas outfit ideas in August, keep in mind that the weather is still really hot. You’ll see lots of shorts paired with a crop top, and both men and women are sporting a tank top to keep cool. Short dresses or cute, lightweight rompers are appropriate and stylish for womenswear, while lightweight bottoms and short sleeve tops are common for menswear. 

September

You might think that September would bring a reprieve from the scorching temps of summer, but the truth is that September in Las Vegas is still quite warm. September isn’t the time to pack your suitcase full of warmer clothes, although it does start cooling off more toward the end of the month. 

October

The temps in October are still warm, with highs in the low to mid-80s. This is a perfect time of year to stroll the strip in an airy midi skirt and your favorite pair of sandals. This is the time of year when deciding what to wear in Vegas, that you can basically choose anything you want. 

One thing to keep in mind is that not all Las Vegas pools are open year-round, and some are already closed come October. This means you might need to pack your swimwear and favorite flip-flops. 

November

Temps take a nosedive in November, but you shouldn’t plan on seeing any snow. Highs typically range in the mid-60s, while lows are in the mid-40s. This is the time of year that you want to pack clothes that you can easily layer, especially if you’re out at night when temps dip. 

December

December is typically the coldest month of the year in Las Vegas. You don’t need snow boots and a winter jacket, but you do want to bring along warmer clothing for outdoor activities. When it comes to holiday parties, this is the time of year to wear whatever your heart desires. After all, this is Las Vegas and YOLO!
